Free Guide to Canceling Your Uber Eats Pass

Understanding Uber Eats Pass and Why People Cancel

Uber Eats Pass is a subscription service offered by Uber Eats that provides members with benefits like free delivery on orders over a certain amount, reduced fees, and exclusive member discounts. The service costs money each month or year, depending on which plan you choose. As of 2024, Uber Eats Pass membership runs approximately $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, though prices may vary by location and change over time.

Many people subscribe to Uber Eats Pass thinking it will save them money on food delivery. However, some users find that they don't order food delivery frequently enough to make the subscription worthwhile. Others discover that the discounts don't apply to all restaurants in their area, or that their eating habits have changed since they signed up. Some subscribers simply forget they have an active membership and continue paying without using it.

According to consumer spending data, Americans spend an average of $200 to $500 per year on food delivery services. For people who use delivery services less than twice per month, a subscription like Uber Eats Pass may cost more than they would spend on delivery fees without the membership. This makes cancellation a logical choice for budget-conscious consumers.

Understanding why you want to cancel matters because it affects which cancellation method works best for you. If you want to cancel because you're not using the service, you might want to review your usage first. If you're canceling due to cost, you might want to know whether pausing your membership (if that option is available) could be an alternative to full cancellation.

Practical Takeaway: Before canceling, review your Uber Eats Pass spending over the past few months. Compare how much you paid in fees versus what you would have paid without the membership. This information helps you decide whether cancellation is right for you or whether you should keep the service.

How to Cancel Through the Mobile App

The most common way to cancel Uber Eats Pass is through the Uber Eats mobile application on your phone. This method works for both iPhone and Android devices. The process involves navigating to your account settings and finding the membership management section. Most users can complete this cancellation in fewer than five minutes.

To cancel through the app, start by opening the Uber Eats application and logging into your account. Look for the user profile icon, typically located in the lower right corner of the main screen. Tap on your profile icon to open your account menu. From there, you should see options including settings, payment methods, and saved addresses. Select the option related to your account or settings.

Once in the account settings area, look for a section labeled "Membership," "Pass," "Subscriptions," or "Uber Eats Pass." The exact name varies slightly depending on when the app was last updated. When you find this section, you should see your current Pass membership displayed with details about your subscription plan and the next billing date. Near this information, you will see a button or option to manage your subscription or cancel membership. Tap this button to proceed to the cancellation screen.

The app may show you a confirmation screen asking why you want to cancel or offering alternative options before finalizing the cancellation. You can select your reason from the provided list or skip this step. After confirming your cancellation, the app should show a message confirming that your Uber Eats Pass membership has been canceled. Some users receive an email confirmation shortly after completing this process. Your access to Pass benefits typically ends immediately, though you may retain access through the end of your current billing cycle depending on how Uber Eats handles refunds in your location.

Practical Takeaway: After canceling through the app, check your email for a confirmation message from Uber Eats. Save this confirmation in case you need proof of cancellation later. If you don't receive an email within a few hours, return to the app to verify that your cancellation was processed successfully.

Canceling Through the Website Version

If you prefer to cancel your Uber Eats Pass using a computer rather than a mobile phone, you can do so through the Uber Eats website. This method provides an alternative for people who find it easier to navigate websites on larger screens or who want to avoid using the mobile app. The website cancellation process follows similar steps to the mobile app but with slightly different navigation.

Begin by opening a web browser and visiting the Uber Eats website. Log in to your account using your email address or phone number and password. Once you're logged in, look for an account or profile section, usually accessible through a menu icon in the upper right corner or a dedicated "Account" link. Click on this menu to see your account options. You should see various settings including "Payment Methods," "Addresses," "Account Settings," or similar options.

Navigate to the section that manages your memberships or subscriptions. This section may be labeled "Memberships," "Subscriptions," "Pass," or "Uber Eats Pass." Click on this section to view your current subscription details. You will see information about your Pass membership, including the subscription type (monthly or annual), the amount you pay, and the next billing date. Look for a button that says "Cancel Membership," "Cancel Subscription," "Manage Pass," or similar text.

Click the cancellation button to proceed. The website may display a survey or explanation screen asking for your reasons for canceling. You can complete this optional survey or skip it. After you confirm your cancellation, you should see a message confirming that your Pass membership has been canceled. The website may also show you the exact date when your benefits will end. Check your email for a confirmation message, which Uber Eats typically sends within a few hours.

Practical Takeaway: Write down the date when your cancellation becomes effective. If you were charged for a future billing cycle between the time you tried to cancel and when the cancellation was processed, you may be able to request a refund by contacting Uber Eats customer service with your cancellation confirmation number.

What Happens to Your Account and Remaining Benefits After Cancellation

When you cancel your Uber Eats Pass membership, several things happen to your account and the benefits you previously had. Understanding what changes helps you plan your food delivery strategy and know what to expect when you try to place orders after cancellation. The exact outcome depends on when during your billing cycle you cancel and your location.

In most cases, once you cancel your Uber Eats Pass membership, your access to Pass benefits ends immediately, even if you paid for a full month or year upfront. This means that on your next order after cancellation, you will pay full delivery fees instead of receiving free or reduced delivery. You will also lose access to exclusive member discounts that were part of your Pass membership. However, if you had an annual Pass and canceled partway through the year, Uber Eats may issue a refund for the unused portion of your subscription, depending on your location and local consumer protection laws.

Some locations offer a limited grace period where you retain Pass benefits through the end of your current billing cycle. For example, if you cancel on the 15th of the month and your membership renews on the first of the month, you might keep your benefits through the end of that month in certain regions. To know whether this applies to you, check the cancellation confirmation screen when you complete the cancellation process—it will display the exact date when your benefits end.

Your account history, saved addresses, payment methods, and order records remain in your Uber Eats account after cancellation. You can continue using Uber Eats without a Pass membership. If you want to reactivate Uber Eats Pass in the future, you can do so by navigating back to the membership section and subscribing again. Reactivating is typically as straightforward as the original subscription process.

Practical Takeaway: Before your cancellation takes effect, place any orders you were planning to make soon. This way, you can take advantage of your remaining Pass benefits. After cancellation, budget for delivery fees on future orders unless you reach the minimum order amount that qualifies for promotional free delivery periods.
